Today’s Red Wings practice featured just 11 forwards, with a number of Detroit players suffering from injury or illness.  While Dylan Larkin skated, none of David Perron, J.T. Compher, and Michael Rasmussen (all of whom, unlike Larkin, played last night against Columbus) participated in the afternoon’s practice.

Rasmussen did not take part in yesterday’s morning skate either, with coach Derek Lalonde noting at the time that he would be a game-time decision for the Blue Jackets game.  Rasmussen was able to suit up last night, but it did not make sense for him to skate today, with Lalonde saying he was “still coming off feeling under the weather.”  Lalonde described Perron and Compher as both taking maintenance days; neither player is believed to be in doubt for tomorrow’s game against the Islanders.

Of Larkin, Lalonde said, “he skated today, so that was certainly a positive.  Obviously, we had some real reps for him too, which was his first time [since the injury].  We’ll get a better feel from the trainer on how he responds to it and know more from there.”

The Detroit captain has not played since March 2nd against the Panthers, and the Red Wings are just 2-6-0 in his absence.  Of course, Larkin’s return would be an enormous lift as Detroit battles for a playoff spot, but his status remains uncertain for Thursday.

“Potentially,” said Lalonde, when asked whether Larkin might be available against the Islanders.  “Again, we’ll see how he feels; he’s progressively getting better.  I’ll have a better feel when I talk to the training staff.”

On the back end, Jake Walman also missed practice with a lower body injury that held him out last night against the Blue Jackets.  Per Lalonde, Walman remains “day-to-day.”
