‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Review: The Best and Worst of the DCEU

James Wan ends with DCEU not with a wet fart, but a reminder of what this universe did well and what it did poorly.

James Wan‘s billion-dollar Aquaman movie finally got its sequel with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which also holds the title as the final movie of the DCEU, before James Gunn and Peter Safran‘s upcoming reboot. The sequel finds Atlantis being attacked by Arthur Curry’s (Jason Momoa) arch-nemesis the Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) who is wielding a powerful artifact known as the black trident. With limited options, Arthur breaks his half-brother and former rival, Orm (Patrick Wilson) out of prison and goes on a quest to save Atlantis from total annihilation. Wan returns to the director’s chair along with returning cast members Momoa, Wilson, Abdul Mateen, Amber Heard as Mera, Randall Park as Dr. Stephen Shin, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Temuera Morrison as Thomas Curry, and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman as Atlanna. Only Murders in the Building star Martin Short also joins the cast as the voice of Kingfish.
