PATNA: For the past week, dozens of schoolchildren from a government primary school in Bihar’s Banka district have been compelled to study on a muddy road under the open sky due to heavy waterlogging on their school premises.
Approximately 70 students attending the school face daily challenges, carrying plastic sheets or sacks to sit on the wet ground. Those who forget to bring these materials must sit on the muddy ground.
The school principal, Manoj Kumar, expressed frustration over the ongoing issue, explaining that the school becomes waterlogged whenever it rains, disrupting classes. He has been writing to the education department officials since 2016, but no action has been taken to address the problem.
Video footage of the students studying on plastic sheets on the road has gone viral on social media platforms.
Block education officer Shiv Narayan Thakur stated that teaching is currently not possible in the flooded school premises, but efforts are being made to arrange alternative classroom space in a nearby private building. District education officer Pawan Kumar claimed he was not aware of the situation, citing the large number of schools in the district.
