Himachal Pradesh crypto currency scam: SIT searches 35 locations across 3 states


SHIMLA: In a significant operation the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted to investigate the cases related to the multi-crore crypto currency fraud in Himachal Pradesh, conducted searches in 35 locations 7 districts and one police district of Himachal Pradesh beside Punjab and Chandigarh on Saturday.
The searches are still continuing.
Recently, the SIT had arrested two main accused persons identified as Hemraj and Sukhdev, both residents of Mandi district, from Gir Somnath in Gujarat.
The searches were conducted at residential premises of the accused and suspect persons at various locations in the districts including Kangra, Mandi, Una, Chamba, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Shimla, and Baddi. Searches were also conducted in Punjab and Chandigarh.
DGP Sanjay Kundu in a statement issued said that these searches have yielded crucial evidence, including incriminating documents, property records, mobile phones, and other digital devices.
He said that additionally, police have seized vehicles and obtained various details related to the proceeds of the crime.
“We are resolute in our pursuit of those who have orchestrated this crypto currency scam, manipulated the market, and exploited innocent investors,” DGP said , adding that the evidence collected during these searches will play a vital role in our ongoing investigation, and it brings us one step closer to holding the culprits accountable for their actions. He said that police are committed to a thorough and fair investigation, leaving no stone unturned in our quest for justice.
Kundu once again appealed to the public to exercise caution and refrain from investing in schemes that promise unusually high returns within a short period. Financial security and investments should always be approached with care and due diligence.
The crypto currency scam first came to notice recently during the Monsoon Session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly when Independent MLA from Dehra, Hoshyar Singh raised the issue in the House by saying that crypto currency scam is worth Rs 200 crore in Hamirpur, Rs 100 crore in Una, and between Rs 200 to Rs 250 crore in Kangra district. After this, deputy chief minister Mukesh Agnihotri had announced in the Assembly to constitute the SIT to probe the matter.
On September 26, SIT headed by Abhishek Dullar, DIG (Northern Range Dharamshala) comprising 13 members was constituted to investigate the cases related to crypto currency scam. The SIT has been directed to look into the bigger conspiracy with respect to crypto currency in the State and has also been directed to carry out professional and impartial investigation, including financial investigation of the cases related to crypto currency.
