PATNA: Two alert loco pilots saved a three-year-old girl, who was standing in the middle of the tracks near Bachwara station under Sonepur division of the East Central Railway (ECR) early Friday.
According to Sonepur DRM Vivek Bhushan Sood, loco pilot R M P Yadav and assistant loco pilot Kishan Kumar of the Lucknow-Barauni Express (15204) suddenly noticed the girl standing in the middle of the railway tracks between Bachwara and Teghra stations. Despite repeated whistles of the incoming train, the girl did not move.
A Alok Kumar TNN cting swiftly, the loco pilots applied an emergency brake to stop the train and saved the precious life of the girl who had come to the railway track by mistake around 7.15am, he said.
Passengers travelling by the train and nearby villagers who had assembled there lauded the presence of mind of the loco pilots, the DRM said. According to railway sources, the girl was later handed over to her parents, who lived in a nearby village. Railways has appealed to people not to leave their children or cattle on or around railway tracks to avert any mishap, sources said.
