LUCKNOW: To organise hassle-free matches for city spectators during the ICC cricket world cup at the Ekana stadium, Lucknow police has come up with certain plans for streamlining traffic.
Five world cup matches are lined up at Ekana, starting with match between South Africa and Australia on October 12.
JCP, law and order, Upendra Agarwal said that in all 11 parking stands will be put in place and barring four stands inside, all will be outside the venue. As on date, a provision of 800 four wheelers has been made but it will be increased.
“We have prepared a colour coded map of Ekana stadium which must be distributed and also made a facility of parking that is colour coded,” said Agarwal.
Agarwal said that a study was done in which it surfaced that sale of tickets at counters creates unnecessary pressure outside the entry gate, hence we will try to make it online or near the parking of two-wheelers. No physical ticket counters will be allowed outside the stadium and can be placed in the malls on the sides.
“The system of ticket scanning will be done inside the stadium with proper barricading, to restrain those entering on a forged ticket,” added Agarwal.
He said that only a limited number of people will be allowed inside the VIP lounge.
Special instructions have been issued to the agencies to make and erect strong signages, boards and the name of the agency which installs it must be mentioned, the officer said.
“A police force of 2,500 is being readied to maintain traffic along with law and order, with 500 cops dedicated to managing traffic,” he added.
For preparation on the part of the police, he told TOI that they have studied the model of Eden gardens cricket stadium in Kolkata which has been organising international matches since the last 150 years and has a robust system.
“We are training cops for managing the volume of traffic in a given sphere of time and how to tackle the crowds inside the stadium based on the Eden model,” said Agarwal. “We will make the live cricket match watching experience memorable in Lucknow,” he said.
