MUMBAI: An unknown person who claimed to be fugitive Canadian gangster Goldy Brar made two calls to Congress MLA Aslam Shaikh on Thursday, threatening to eliminate him in the next two days. The calls were made on Shaikh’s mobile phone which was attended by his personal assistant, lawyer Vikram Kapoor (37), said police.
Bangur Nagar police have registered an FIR against an unknow n person on Saturday based on Kapoor’s complaint.
Shaikh was in the BMC (P North) office in Malad (West) when he got the call. “A team has been formed to track down the two mobile numbers from which the threat calls were made. The caller threatened to kill Shaikh in two days before disconnecting the call. The case was registered after Kapoor informed Shaikh,” said a police officer of the Bangur Nagar police station.
Kapoor told TOI, “Two calls were received on MLA Shaikh’s mobile at around 10.26am on October 5. The first call immediately got disconnected. The second call was made from a different number with the five-digit having the same series of numbers. The second call lasted some 40 seconds.”
Kapoor further said that the caller identified himself as Goldy Brar and inquired about MLA Shaikh. “After I identified myself, the caller threatened saying, ‘ Mein Goldy Brar bol raha hoon. Mein Aslam Shaikh ko do din me goli maarkar udaane wala hoon. Yeh Aslam Shaikh ko batha dena (This is Goldy Brar. I will kill Aslam Shaikh in two days. Inform him) and disconnected the calls,” said Kapoor.
Kapoor took a screenshot of the two calls and filed a complaint. A case under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and 507 (criminal intimidation by anonymous communication) has been registered against an unknown pe rson.
