Punjab BJP leaders stage protest outside CM Bhagwant Mann’s houe over SYL canal issue

CHANDIGARH: Leaders and members of the Punjab BJP held a protest outside chief minister Bhagwant Mann‘s residence on Saturday on the issue of the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal dispute.
During the demonstration led by Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar and joined by other prominent leaders, including Union minister of state for commerce and industry Som Parkash, they were detained by Chandigarh Police and were later released.
Prior to the protest, the Punjab BJP core committee convened a meeting to discuss the SYL canal issue and passed a resolution. The state leadership accused the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government of betraying Punjab’s interests.
Sunil Jakhar emphasised, “AAP may attempt to mislead the public with deception, but we are committed to ensuring that Punjab’s water resources remain within the state. The BJP Punjab unit will not allow anyone to manipulate Punjab’s objectives for their political gain.”
AAP government in Punjab has been at the receiving end of the opposition parties in the state who are accusing the ruling party of compromising Punjab’s rights by submitting before the Supreme Court that the delay in constructing the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal was caused by opposition pressure and difficulties in acquiring land from farmers.
