Shahid Kapoor: Shahid Kapoor opens up on being compared to Shah Rukh Khan early in his career, says it was ‘worst thing’ for a beginner

Shahid Kapoor recently shed light on the comparisons made between him and Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, particularly at the beginning of his career. After stepping into the limelight with the hit film ‘Ishq Vishk‘ in 2003, Shahid quickly became a sensation, not just for his riveting acting prowess but also for his stellar dance moves and charming ‘lover boy’ appearance. This rapid rise in popularity and likeness to SRK‘s signature charm garnered him the label of the ‘next Shah Rukh Khan‘.

Now in a candid interview with an entertainment portal, Shahid opened up on how this perception had a significant impact on his self-view and approach to acting. He openly recognized the comparisons made between him and Shah Rukh Khan, but was quick to highlight the pitfalls of such juxtapositions. He said, “Being termed as the next version of any established actor is disadvantageous. Everyone has their unique journey and charisma. Trying to replicate someone else’s success based on superficial similarities is a flawed approach.”
Shahid further elucidated that such comparisons, especially at a young age, can be tremendously pressuring. Young actors might inadvertently shape themselves to match these comparisons rather than digging deep to discover and hone their distinctive style and essence. Such an approach, according to Shahid, not only stifles originality but also makes an actor lose touch with their true self. Reflecting on his journey, Shahid reminisced about moments when he felt out of place, trying to fit into a mould that wasn’t genuinely his. He emphasized the importance of carving one’s own niche rather than basking in someone else’s reflected glory.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shahid Kapoor was last seen in the action-packed film ‘Bloody Daddy’. Fans are eagerly waiting for his next film, a yet-to-be-titled romantic comedy alongside Kriti Sanon. The film is slated to hit the theaters on December 7.
