COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — The highly-anticipated game between the No. 1-ranked South Carolina women’s basketball team and No. 9 LSU delivered huge ratings for ESPN.
Thursday night’s showdown between the last two national championship programs averaged 1.56 million viewers on Thursday night.
It was the most-watched sporting event on Thursday, topping two NBA games.
NBA matchups of the Celtics-Heat and the Kings-Warriors each delivered 1.38 million viewers on TNT, respectively.
Thursday’s ratings improved from the matchup between the two teams a year ago.

In February 2023, the battle between South Carolina and LSU brought in 1.47 million viewers on Super Bowl Sunday. Both programs went into that game with undefeated records.
Since 2010, the only regular season women’s basketball game to beat either of those ratings numbers was the game between Iowa and Ohio State that aired on NBC last week.
