Canadian PM Justin Trudeau raised the issue of alleged Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistan leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
India has strong ties with UAE and Trudeau’s move is being seen as another attempt to apply pressure on India to join the probe into the killing even though Canada is yet to share with India any evidence about the alleged role of Indian agents.
Trudeau raised the issue in a phone conversation with the UAE president about the Hamas attack on Israel. “We also spoke about India and the importance of upholding — and respecting — the rule of law,” he later said on X, formerly Twitter. Trudeau had raised the issue with UK PM Rishi Sunak emphasising on the same point about the significance of following international law.
