Former first lay Michelle Obama is not very keen to publicly campaign for President Joe Biden‘s re-election because Kathleen Buhle, Hunter Biden’s former wife, is Michelle’s friend, reports claimed. Axios reported that Michelle was not happy how the Bidens treated her friend. Hunter Biden who is under fire for the gun case, split from Kathleen in 2017.In his memoir, he documented his ex-wife’s friendship with Michelle — they used to work out together at the gym and often had evening cocktails at the White House — at both formal and informal events.
Kathleen accused Hunter Biden of cheating and squandering the savings on drugs and prostitutes. After their divorce, she grew closer with Michelle as the divorce proceedings were quite messy.
Michelle has not spoken about it publicly connecting it with her absence in Biden’s campaigning but privately she told some close acquaintances that Kathleen was wronged by the Biden family after 22 years of marriage.
New York Post quoted a statement from a White House Spokesperson dismissing any rumors of a rift between the Bidens and the Obamas. “The Biden and Obama families are like family to one another, and whomever made these claims about that relationship isn’t familiar with it,” it said.
A representative of Michelle told New York Post that she backed Biden’s re-election campaign and she is also friends with Kathleen — both are true.

Axios reported that Michelle Obama was initially reluctatnt to campaign for Biden in 2020 as well. Obama had attended fundraisers and appeared in videos for Biden’s re-election but Michelle has been absent — termed as ‘rare’.
Obama also didn’t approve of Hunter Biden family drama. According to Axios, after a fundraiser of the Biden family in 2017, Obama “described the Biden family dynamics as weird s***”.
Despite the rumors of the rift, Jill Biden attended the memorial service for Michelle’s mother this week, Axios reported.
